Lal Kosematoglu

Lal Kosematoglu is currently completing her MFA in Interior Design at the New York School of Interior Design, with a bachelor's in Classical Civilizations and Roman Architecture from Cornell University. Her academic foundation in spatial analysis informs a design practice centered on how interiors respond to cultural identity, human movement, and safety.

She is a recipient of the Anne K. Duffy Travel Prize, awarded for independent research on earthquake-resilient interiors in Japan, where she will study how Japanese design culture and material practice inform spatial safety. This research is grounded in a longstanding interest in innovative, safety-forward design and the rebuilding efforts that followed the 2023 Turkey earthquake.

Her broader design interests lie at the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and luxury. Her professional experience spans interior design practice, editorial writing, and archival work across New York, Rome, and Istanbul.
