type

residential

location

New York, NY

This residence is designed as a NYC pied a terre for a 62-year-old sommelier. The home accommodates the client alongside an occasional visiting son and caregiver. The design is contemporary with traditional underpinnings, drawing on aged natural materials and a disciplined, uncluttered spatial sensibility that reflects the client's refined tastes and active lifestyle.

program

Wine Storage & Tasting

The apartment opens to an integrated wine wall for display and daily drinking wines. The kitchen doubles as a climate-controlled storage area with a dedicated tasting area.

Kitchen & Dining

A serious, well-equipped kitchen oriented toward hosting dinners. Includes a dining area sized for communal meals with the household and occasional guests.

Primary Bedroom

A quiet, private retreat for the client. Tailored and minimal, with generous wardrobe storage, biophilic materials, and quality natural light.

Guest Room

A private bedroom for the occasional guest or visiting son, designed as a fully habitable space as well as a guest room.

Living Room & Art Display

A relaxed living space that doubles as a display area for the client's contemporary art collection. The centerpiece is a large electric firestone functioning as a coffee table. Lighting is considered carefully to support both relaxation and display.

design considerations

The material palette references old world wine country through use of aged oak, honed stone, and patinated metals to create a restrained, material-forward space.
